2011 Plans...

It's been a long time since a label update, but now that I've got a job and am finally settled in here in Montana, I've got a few newsworthy bits on upcoming releases for 2011.

First, things are back on track with the three THOU cassettes that were supposed to come out this past summer. As soon as we've got artwork details hammered out, we'll get started on production for a limited run of stand-alone cassettes for their three albums, Tyrant, Peasant and Summit (the latter of which will be co-released with Gilead Media/Broadcloak). If you haven't done so already, make sure to check out Summit which was released this summer by Gilead on cd and more recently on vinyl by Southern Lord. More news on the tapes soon.

Second, I'm excited to announce that I'll be doing a new 7" EP for GET RAD from Milwaukee, WI, entitled Choose Your Own Adventure. This will be released in collaboration with the excellent Halo of Flies Records, also based in Milwaukee. This is being sent off for mastering and pressing soon and if all goes well, it should be out in early 2011. More news on this one soon. Get stoked.

New Town, New Releases, KWC Tour

Well, we safely made it across country and are now living in Missoula, Montana. The past few weeks have been spent getting settled into a new apartment, meeting some great new folks, going tubing and catching a bunch of sweet bands at Wantage Total Fest (come out for it next year!) and just enjoying this amazing town and all of it’s wild surroundings. It’s beautiful country out here for sure!

Getting things back on track with the label, I've got a bunch of Kowloon Walled City related updates. Last week I received the second pressing of their Gambling on the Richter Scale LP, as well the silkscreened jackets for the new limited CD version of the album, so both of those are ready to ship. The LP repress is available on silver vinyl (limited to 300) and good old black vinyl (limited to 200), and comes packaged in matte reverse board jackets, and this time around we left out the CD to make it a bit cheaper, although it can be downloaded for free on their website here. The new limited stand-alone CD version is limited to just 250 copies and comes packaged in a two-color professionally silkscreened Arigato Pak jacket with an insert. See the bottom of the post for some pictures of both, which can now be ordered in the newly restored PMM online store. I'll be adding several new distro items and other goodies in the coming weeks, so look out!

The band is gearing up for their long awaited east coast tour later this month (dates below) and in preparation, they’ve dropped two other releases- Lose Lose Lose, a three-way split 12" with fellow noise-rock/post-hardcore outfits Fight Amp and Ladder Devils on Brutal Panda (which you can download for free here), and a repress of their now classic Turk Street 10”, courtesy of Feast of Tentacles and Bryan from Thou’s new label, Howling Mine Records. Definitely make sure to check those out.

Kowloon Walled City & Batillus East Coast Tour:
Sat 9/18 NYC - Cake Shop w/ Riff Cannon (early show)
Sun 9/19 Boston, MA - Great Scott w/ Disappearer, Riff Cannon
Mon 9/20 Providence, RI - AS220 w/ Tongue Dynasty, Witch King
Tue 9/21 Baltimore, MD - Hexagon w/ Salome, Oak
Wed 9/22 Pittsburgh, PA - Garfield Artworks
Thu 9/23 Knoxville, TN - The Pilot Light w/ New Brutalism
Fri 9/24 Atlanta, GA - Eyedrum - Forward to the Apocalypse Fest

Tue 9/28 Raleigh, NC - Divebar Raleigh w/ Machete! (free!)
Wed 9/29 Chapel Hill, NC - The Reservoir w/ Machete! (free!)
Thu 9/30 Richmond, VA - Strange Matter w/ Lord By Fire
Fri 10/1 Philadelphia, PA - Kung Fu Necktie w/ Fight Amp, Ladder Devils
Sat 10/2 Brooklyn, NY - The Acheron w/ Liturgy

I think that's it for now, but I’ll have some updates on upcoming new releases in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. Thanks for reading!

PMM is moving.

Sooo, at the end of July I'm leaving old Richmond, Virginia on a cross-country move to Missoula, Montana. This has been a long time coming and only recently did I decide to go forward with it. I'll be going out with my wonderful girlfriend, our little dog, a handful of personal possessions, and some bits and pieces of the label. PMM will continue out there, but will most likely be scaled down a bit, at least for the foreseeable future.

In an attempt to make the move a bit easier on us and my car's suspension, I'm doing a big sale on most of the PMM releases now through July 25, after which I will be taking down the store for a few weeks. Additionally, I've put up a 20% off coupon for all orders. Just type in JULY20 during checkout. Big orders will get free stuff. Bigger orders will get copies of just about everything extra I've got lying around (that will fit into the mailer). Take advantage of the sale here.

The next few months will see lots of touring as well as a few little releases: a repress of Kowloon Walled City's "Gambling on the Richter Scale" LP (co-released with Feast of Tentacles from England) as well as a limited run CD version of that one, and, limited run cassette versions of Thou's "Tyrant" and "Peasant" in some sort of hand-printed packaging. Kowloon Walled City will be touring the east coast for two weeks in September and October with Batillus from NYC. Dates and details for that are materializing here. The Catalyst will be doing a US tour in October. Ancient Sky will be doing a European tour in October. Thou will be doing a lot of little weekends and shows this fall, including a few with KWC/Batillus. Busy times.

More news on all of these things after the move. And maybe some pictures from the road too. Until then, consider picking up some of the releases at some heavily discounted prices. Thanks for the support.

Thou / Moloch 12" Photos

I received my copies of the Thou / Moloch "Tears That Soak A Callous Heart" Split 12" earlier this week and all pre-orders for that have now shipped. Thanks again to everyone that pre-ordered this amazing release.

I've still got copies of the 12" and cassette available for mailorder through the PMM store, though those able to see the bands on their current US tour can pick up copies direct from the bands. If in Europe, please order from Feast of Tentacles.

Here are some photos of the vinyl and packaging:

Thou / Moloch Split pre-order update

I want to thank everyone that pre-ordered the THOU / MOLOCH "Tears That Soak A Callous Heart" Split 12" and cassette. The cassettes are finished and cassette-only orders shipped out this week. It came out great, with letterpress-printed covers, an insert, and a nice silkscreened patch. I've got less than 10 copies left for mailorder, so if you won't be seeing these guys on tour, you can order it here.

The vinyl is scheduled to arrive here on Monday, June 21, and I hope to start shipping out pre-orders on Tuesday. The response for this has awesome so far, and I've only got 10 copies left of the pre-order special with a free screen-printed poster, which can be ordered here.

Thanks again to everyone for their patience and support of this awesome release. It will be well worth the wait!

Thou / Moloch 12" & Cassette Available for Pre-order

THOU/MOLOCH "Tears That Soak A Callous Heart"

Now available for preorder, the long-awaited pairing of Baton Rouge, Louisiana's THOU with Nottingham, UK's MOLOCH, will be out on 12" and cassette in late June on The Perpetual Motion Machine (US) and Feast of Tentacles (UK). On this monstrous split release, Thou offer up two epic new songs of crushing sludge/doom with hints of melody while Moloch drop three down-trodden new songs of heavy, hateful sludge.

The 12" will be packaged in reverse printed, black and white jackets and heavyweight printed inner jackets, with all copies on clear vinyl, limited to 1000. The cassettes are pro-pressed with black ink on white shells and come packaged with letterpress-printed j-cards, a lyric sheet and a silkscreened patch, limited to 300.

For the pre-order, we have also created a limited run of 12"x19" silkscreened posters that will be included with the first 100 orders from each label (limit one poster per person) and will be available in limited quantities from the bands on tour. Thanks to Adam @ Gilead Media for the printing help!

I hope to have my copies assembled and ready to ship around June 18. It will be in stores and distros shortly after. The bands will have tapes shortly and should have vinyl starting around the second week of their June/July US tour (see dates below).

Recent press for KWC and LftW...

Kowloon Walled City are featured in the March issue of Alarm Magazine. Here's a scan of their write-up/review:

And a little while back, Outburn Magazine featured some nice reviews of KWC and Litany for the Whale:

Teeth of the Divine also had some nice things to say about LftW in a recent review:

"Here’s a cool little 7 track EP from a new California act who mange to meld dark, pummeling hardcore, crust and post rock into a solid release that bodes well for the future, even in relatively crowded scene. Definitely recommended for fans on Converge due to some blistering chaos, underlined with some subtle and metallic harmonies, Litany For the Whale will also appeal to fans of Gaza, Cursed, Harlots and such with their addition of crumbling atmospherics and instrumental sections amid the gritty metallic spurts." - Teeth of the Divine

Also worth checking out... Scott Evans from KWC did a massive interview with Kurt Ballou on God City Studio for the new issue of Tape Op.

The end of another year.

I just finished packing a pile of mailorders and thought I’d give an update on the label and it's seventh year in 2009. It was a crazy ass year for me and the one-man Perpetual Motion Machine. Definitely the busiest, most insane year of the label yet, with a pile of new releases from the likes of old and new friends Kowloon Walled City, The Catalyst, Litany For The Whale, and Ancient Sky. All of this kept me busy to no end and on my toes throughout the year. I couldn’t have made it without everyone that supported the label. So thanks to those who ordered records and supported the bands on the road, the amazing writers, bloggers and twitter-ers, distros and stores, and everyone else who gave a damn about the bands and their releases.

Kowloon Walled City’s debut full length, Gambling on the Richter Scale, came out in late September on 12” vinyl with cd included and was also made available for free digital download. The response for this has been really astounding and the first pressing is running low, so pick it up if you haven’t yet. So far it’s received a great response from the press as well, with solid reviews from Decibel, Metal Hammer, Rocksound, Lambgoat, Aquarius Records, and many others. The band is playing a few California shows in January with Fight Amp and is starting to make plans for a more extensive tour later in the spring. Check out the PMM store for copies of the 12"+CD, their first EP and some shirts.

The Catalyst’s first full length, Swallow Your Teeth came out on LP and CD in August, and I’m down to my last couple copies of the limited color versions of the LP. They did a short tour with LftW this fall, including what I hear was a pretty bad ass show at The Fest, and have been playing a lot of pretty rad shows around Richmond these past few months. They are gearing up for their second trip to Europe, which will take place in April-May 2010. More details on that over here.

Litany for the Whale recently returned home from their first US tour and having been playing a bunch of shows around the Bay Area this winter, while working on new songs for a couple future releases. Their debut 12” EP, Dolores, is still available from PMM and Molsook, though our limited color versions for mailorder are running low. The cd version came out in September on Teenage Disco Bloodbath Records and the release has been picking up a good amount of well-deserved praise from places like Decibel, Outburn, Rocksound and several others.

Ancient Sky are playing a slew of shows in January and February after a bit of a hiatus, though guitarist/singer Brian Markham recently returned from a European tour with his quieter two-piece project Timber Rattle. If you haven’t done so yet, check out their debut LP, available for order here.

I don't have any solid release plans for 2010 yet, but will have an update on that in the near future. In the meantime, I'm taking a breather from this crazy past year of releases. Keep your eye on the online store for several new distro items and imports in the coming weeks. Thanks for reading and thanks for the support.
